Merrijig community members attempted to form a Progress Group in mid -2022, which didn’t materialise, but created a desire for a community organisation to be established.
The desire for a community organisation was further triggered when Mansfield Shire Council requested input from the community for their Sustainable Tourism Plan in early2023.
A small group of community members met in May 2023, and formed a steering committee which focused on involving the wider Delatite Valley community.
Subsequently, during October, November and December 2023, three well attended community meetings were held, with the December meeting being the one at which those in attendance voted to proceed to incorporation of the Delatite Valley Association.
The purposes of the Association are to improve the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the community, including but not limited to:
(a) Through collaboration, harness the collective strength and unity of the Community;
(b) Advocate for and represent the members of the Association in relation to significant planning, development, environmental, agricultural and heritage matters;
(c) Promote and support awareness of the region's culture and history and endorse its preservation;
(d) Advocate for new and/or improved amenities and infrastructure and support community interests;
(e) Seek funding opportunities from all levels of government and other sources; and
(f) Regularly consult withMansfield Shire Council to pursue the purposes of the Association.

The committee elected on 15 May 2024 met for the first time on Sunday June 30 to commence work on establishing community priorities.
First up the committee will meet with representatives of Council to be clear on any activities underway that affect the Delatite Valley, such as the proposed 20-year Delatite Valley plan.
Consultation will also take place with existing groups in the Valley to ensure we build on established efforts and work together.
The committee's goal is to identify a set of priorities that are realistic and actionable prior to year end.
